Comedy Masala was founded by Umar Rana in September 2010 to establish a weekly Standup Comedy Open Mic platform in Singapore and to give anyone a chance to learn and perform standup comedy to a live audience. Comedy Masala kicked off on 5th October 2010, and it has since seen a multitude of local comedians get up onstage for three to five minutes every Tuesday.
“If you want to shake away the Monday Blues on a Tuesday, head to Home Club. It’s seriously funny. And that’s no joke.” (Christopher Toh, TODAY)

Masala’s popularity has increased rapidly since its launch. The thrill of watching live comedy whilst enjoying happy hour drinks all night has made Comedy Masala at Home Club one of Singapore’s best Tuesday nights out.
Comedy Masala’s biggest success came in 2011 when two of our comics opened for the Emmy-nominated actor and Saturday Night Live veteran Rob Schneider during his standup comedy world tour stopover in Singapore. Comedy Masala’s Resident MC Umar Rana was also chosen as the MC for the night. The event remains as the biggest crowd Comedy Masala has ever performed for, with over 1,400 people cheering and laughing!
Comedy Masala has produced and co-presented professional comedy shows “Laugh Off Asia” and “Karma Komedians” in Singapore in partnership with Home Club & DMR Productions.
In January 2012, Comedy Masala signed a one season, 13 episode deal with MediaCorp to air Comedy Masala on TV in Singapore.
Umar Rana is the founder of Comedy Masala. By day, Umar is a Banker in Singapore and by night he’s a comedian and Home Club’s Resident MC for Comedy Masala. Umar has performed live in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan and has established himself as the leading influence in developing the standup comedy open mic culture in Singapore.
After only 4 months of making his debut in standup comedy in 2009, Umar entered the 3rd Annual Hong Kong International Comedy Competition and was 2nd runner up out of 30 international comedians. Umar’s passion for comedy kept growing, finally resulting in the creation of Comedy Masala in September 2010.
Umar began his entertainment career in 2001 and was a founding member of Black Fish, Pakistan’s first and highly acclaimed English Speaking Improvisational Comedy Troupe. Black Fish attained cult status and represented Pakistan in “Contacting the World” Theater Festival in Manchester, England.
